The client is a mid-sized retail and commercial bank operating in Southern Europe. Serving individual, SME, and corporate customers, the bank plays a critical role in its regional economy. With increasing competition from fintechs and digital-native banks, the institution was under pressure to modernise its technology landscape while continuing to meet strict regulatory and compliance requirements typical of the banking industry.
Challenge
The bank’s legacy core systems had become a significant constraint on business growth and customer experience. Launching new digital products was slow and complex, customer journeys were fragmented across channels, and manual processing dominated key operations such as payments and compliance checks. As customer expectations evolved towards seamless, self-service digital banking, the existing technology stack limited the bank’s ability to innovate, scale efficiently, and respond quickly to market and regulatory changes.
Solution
To overcome these challenges, the bank embarked on a comprehensive core banking transformation using the Temenos banking platform. A ‘big bang’ implementation approach was adopted to modernise the entire technology landscape in a unified manner, rather than through incremental upgrades.
The solution included deployment of Temenos Transact as the core banking system, Temenos Digital for omni-channel customer engagement, Temenos Payments Hub for modernising domestic and international payments, and Financial Crime Mitigation for automated compliance and risk management. In addition, wealth management, trade finance, and advanced analytics capabilities were integrated into a single end-to-end platform.
Data was migrated from legacy systems, and back-end processes were redesigned to align operations, compliance, and customer servicing on a common digital foundation. This ensured consistency across channels, improved straight-through processing, and created a scalable architecture ready for future innovation.

This significantly reduced operational effort, errors, and processing time, while enabling the bank to handle higher transaction volumes without proportional increases in cost.
