To uphold this commitment, BCT strategically aligned with LinkedIn Learning, tapping into its extensive learning resources to empower 1,000+ of its employees across the globe with learning opportunities. In a bid to streamline learning initiatives and optimize outcomes, BCT integrated LinkedIn Learning with its Human Capital Management (HCM) system.

Challenge

Approximately 1,000+ associates across the globe access LinkedIn Learning. However, discernible gaps exist in the visibility of ongoing learning activities and the corresponding data. The individual employees’ learning progress data is intended to reside within the company’s employee information system for easy access. This necessitates a highly efficient middleware solution to facilitate seamless data flow and provide insights into employees’ learning endeavors. Alongside these challenges, quantifying the return on investment (ROI) for learning investments presents another significant task, requiring robust measurement methodologies to gauge the tangible benefits derived from these initiatives accurately.

Limited Insight Accessibility: Direct access to insights on learning progress and related details from LinkedIn Learning is not feasible in the employee’s records, posing challenges in monitoring and analyzing learning activities effectively.

Data Volume: Managing a large volume of data extracted from the LinkedIn Learning platform presents complexities in data handling and processing.

Time Zone and Data Format Constraints: LinkedIn Learning data is exclusively stored in the PST time zone and in milliseconds, necessitating conversion and standardization efforts. Moreover, data availability only at 'N–2' days post-completion complicates real-time analysis and reporting.

Update Identification Challenges: Identifying specific sections of data requiring updates or synchronization between platforms proved to be challenging.

Solution

To integrate LinkedIn Learning with BCT’s HCM system using TIBCO middleware, BCT’s Internal Automation team first developed a detailed integration plan. BCT’s TIBCO Services division took the lead on the extensive integration initiative. We implemented TIBCO BusinessWorks middleware as the intermediary software layer to facilitate communication and data exchange between LinkedIn Learning (SAAS) and BCT’s HCM system. This integration utilized TIBCO’s robust features, such as interoperability support and cloud compatibility, to ensure a smooth and secure transfer of data. Incorporating specific tags makes it easier to identify specific training modules on the HCM side. The unique user email ID serves as a link between the LinkedIn Learning platform and HCM employee learning data. Also, real time alerts were introduced into SLACK from the TIBCO BusinessWorks Middleware platform.

Assessment: Evaluated BCT’s current HCM capabilities and infrastructure to ensure compatibility with TIBCO middleware.
