More Than 20 Network Devices Upgraded Without Downtime
BCT Consulting addressed network performance risks, delivered switch upgrades and supported a critical site migration across an academic healthcare environment.
Client
Challenge
The organisation faced high CPU utilisation on critical Cisco devices, a large-scale switch upgrade programme, SSL certificate lifecycle requirements and application connectivity issues. Geolocation database updates and a critical site migration added to the operational workload.
These activities required careful planning and execution to minimise disruption. The team needed to address performance risks and maintain network infrastructure while supporting uninterrupted operations and limiting the impact of changes on end users.
These activities required careful planning and execution to minimise disruption. The team needed to address performance risks and maintain network infrastructure while supporting uninterrupted operations and limiting the impact of changes on end users.
Solution
BCT Consulting analysed network device performance metrics and identified the root cause of elevated CPU utilisation on Cisco switches. Proactive troubleshooting and remediation addressed the associated performance risk.
The team planned and executed software upgrades on more than 20 Arista network devices. Pre-change validation and post-change health checks supported controlled implementation. BCT Consulting also participated in a critical weekend go-live, supporting a successful site migration and cutover into the healthcare organisation’s environment.
For application connectivity and security support, BCT Consulting renewed and deployed SSL certificates across F5 load balancers serving multiple business-critical applications. The team also updated geolocation databases on F5 platforms.
Skilled L2/L3 engineering support, monitoring and incident management were supported by defined change, problem and escalation processes. Collaboration with customer stakeholders and application teams helped coordinate work across the network environment.

Impact
More than 20 Arista devices were upgraded without downtime, with no reported impact to end users during the upgrades. The programme maintained service continuity while updating network infrastructure.
Troubleshooting and remediation eliminated the identified performance risk associated with high CPU utilisation on Cisco infrastructure and improved network stability. Controlled upgrades and migration support reduced operational risk during major infrastructure changes.
