Connecting Vehicle Location with Material Movement
BCT combined vehicle monitoring, plant geofencing and driver trip declarations to strengthen transport oversight, safety monitoring and material reconciliation at an integrated steel facility.

Challenge
Plant management lacked direct tracking data for contracted vehicles. Teams could not reliably see where trucks were, how they were being driven or how long they remained in each operational zone. This limited oversight of route adherence, unauthorised access and delays that could affect shipment schedules.
Vehicle location alone would not resolve the problem. Operations teams also needed to know the material being carried and the purpose of each trip. Without that context, reconciling production output, yard stock and shipments depended on incomplete information.
Manual movement logs delayed reporting and created discrepancies between yard, weighbridge and jetty teams. Continuous operations added to the need for timely safety alerts and an auditable record of vehicle activity across transporters.

Solution
BCT deployed an In-Vehicle Monitoring System through the CUETRANS IVMS platform. Monitoring units were installed on all third-party transporter vehicles authorised to operate within the plant, capturing GPS location, speed, route history, idle time and ignition status.
Digital geofences mapped the production area, cooling bay, weighbridge, storage yards, container services and jetty. Automatic entry and exit events provided a live view of movement between zones, with alerts for unauthorised entry, unusual dwell times and deviations from expected routes.
A driver mobile application captured material type and movement purpose at the start of each trip. Combining these declarations with vehicle telemetry and geofence events created a timestamped record linking each journey to its cargo and operational purpose.
A consolidated dashboard brought together transporter-level vehicle status, zone-wise movement, registration status and device reporting. It also displayed driver safety exceptions from in-cab AI monitoring, including fatigue, mobile phone use and smoking alerts. Control-room teams could compare transporter activity and identify vehicles that had stopped transmitting.
