A mobile app combines posture analysis with automatic bicycle adjustments
A global bicycle manufacturer replaced a specialist fitting setup with a guided mobile experience that analyzes a rider’s position and connects to adjustable bicycle hardware.
Client
Challenge
The existing fitting process relied on four cameras and a high-performance computer. The equipment was costly, took time to set up and was difficult to deploy consistently across many retail locations.
The client wanted a fitting process that technicians could deliver more easily in store and that first-time users could follow without specialist equipment. It also sought a way to reduce repeated manual adjustments during a fitting session.
The client wanted a fitting process that technicians could deliver more easily in store and that first-time users could follow without specialist equipment. It also sought a way to reduce repeated manual adjustments during a fitting session.
Solution
BCT Consulting built a mobile bicycle-fitting app that uses on-device machine learning and pose estimation to identify key joint positions as a rider pedals. A guided workflow takes users through the fitting process and analyzes posture in real time.
1
The mobile experience can be used by professional technicians and first-time users.
2
Posture analysis runs on the device, removing the need for the previous four-camera and dedicated-computer arrangement.
3
An Auto-Fitting function connects to Bluetooth-controlled bicycle hardware and adjusts seat and handlebar positions while monitoring the rider’s posture.
4
The app brings posture analysis, fitting guidance and hardware control into one in-store workflow.
Impact
The guided fitting process takes minutes and can be deployed with a mobile device rather than a dedicated fitting rig. This reduces the hardware and setup barriers to offering the service across retail locations. Automatic seat and handlebar adjustments also reduce the manual work involved in finding a suitable riding position.
The client reported that the app’s fitting accuracy surpassed its previous four-camera setup. Together, the guided workflow and simpler equipment requirements make the fitting experience easier to offer in store.
