BCT’s Bridge API Gateway brought developer access, security and governance into a shared platform to support the bank’s growing digital ecosystem.

Challenge
The bank needed to move beyond point-to-point integration as digital services and partner connections expanded. Managing these connections independently increased complexity around security, scalability, monitoring and the API lifecycle.
The requirement extended beyond routing traffic. The bank needed to accelerate API and partner onboarding, apply consistent security controls and improve visibility across its integration environment. It also needed a structured way to make APIs available to different consumer groups and reuse services across applications.
The platform had to support production banking requirements, including data centre and disaster recovery operations, controlled access and auditability. Governance and security needed to align with the bank’s policies and applicable regulatory requirements as its open banking ecosystem grew.

Solution
BCT designed and implemented a centralised platform using its Bridge API Gateway. The solution brought API management, security, governance, monitoring and integration into a common layer supporting public, private, partner and open APIs.
Publisher, consumer and developer portal capabilities enabled registration, API discovery, testing, subscriptions and requests for new APIs. Centralised lifecycle management covered publishing, versioning, access controls and developer administration, giving the bank a consistent approach to managing services and their consumers.
A controlled security layer supported authentication, API keys, encryption, signature and schema validation, threat protection, IP whitelisting and audit trails. Consumer authorisation reflected API classifications and approval controls. The design incorporated the bank’s security policies and applicable RBI, CERT-In and government requirements, including support for audits.
The architecture was designed for on-premises deployment across the bank’s data centre and disaster recovery environments, with replication and failover aligned to its recovery objectives. It also supported cloud, hybrid, virtual machine and container deployment models. TIBCO EMS, TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition and OpenShift formed part of the technology stack.
The API Management Portal supported free and paid commercial models for API access. BCT’s scope also covered ongoing operations and continuous API development, with approximately 10 new APIs per month included under the ongoing service scope.
