Telecom Provider Cuts Downtime by 75% with TIBCO Modernisation
BCT migrated TIBCO applications to a cloud-native environment, automated code review and deployment, and completed an eight-month project in six months.

Challenge
The provider’s existing TIBCO BusinessWorks applications needed to be containerised for cloud deployment. This required a new environment with upgraded messaging and automation, alongside migration of the existing code from BusinessWorks 6.x.
Application performance was another concern. Slow TIBCO code affected production operations, while difficulties identifying points of failure complicated the response to critical incidents. The provider needed clearer logging and more maintainable code to help its teams diagnose issues.
The work therefore extended beyond moving applications to a new platform. The provider needed to improve how code was reviewed, deployed and maintained, while giving its teams a clear understanding of the revised billing flows and technical environment. The project was originally planned to take eight months.

Solution
BCT installed TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition (BWCE) and migrated the provider’s existing BusinessWorks 6.x code using BWCE Studio. The team set up an OpenShift cluster with Podman in the development environment to support containerised deployments, with Argo CD providing deployment automation.
To automate the application delivery lifecycle, BCT connected GitLab CI/CD pipelines to the provider’s Git repository. SonarQube was integrated with TIBCO BusinessWorks to automate code review, bringing review and release activities into the revised delivery process.
The messaging environment was upgraded with Kafka using KRaft. BCT also moved the existing TIBCO EMS 8 environment to cloud EMS X with FTL. Standard logging modules integrated with Kafka were introduced to support high availability and make application failures easier to trace.
BCT modularised the billing code and introduced coding and maintenance practices to improve performance and make faults easier to isolate. These changes addressed the application code alongside the infrastructure and deployment processes supporting it.
The team documented the billing flows through high-level and low-level designs, supported by detailed technical documentation. After delivery, regular customer workshops helped transfer knowledge of the revised applications, logging modules and deployment environment to the provider’s teams.
