One Governed Maintenance View for 34 Rail Subsystems
BCT is delivering a Maintenance Management Information System that connects operational and enterprise technologies, closes the loop from alarm to work order and embeds predictive maintenance into a new metropolitan rail network from day one.
Client
Challenge
Thirty-four subsystems, supplied by multiple specialist vendors, had to support one maintenance obligation. Signalling, power, ventilation, communications, fare collection, platform screen doors, vertical transportation and depot systems each report through different technologies. Without a unifying layer, maintenance teams would be forced to monitor separate vendor consoles and reconcile information manually.
Industrial control, network management, time synchronisation, file transfer, database and web service technologies also had to converge into one consistent maintenance record without modifying the subsystems. Predictive maintenance needed to be available when the network enters service, not added after a period of reactive operation.
Finally, every interface was a formal engineering deliverable. Connections had to be defined, agreed, verified and validated through Interface Control Documents, ruling out undocumented point-to-point integration.
Industrial control, network management, time synchronisation, file transfer, database and web service technologies also had to converge into one consistent maintenance record without modifying the subsystems. Predictive maintenance needed to be available when the network enters service, not added after a period of reactive operation.

Solution
BCT is delivering the Maintenance Management Information System as two cooperating halves: MIDAS360, BCT’s proprietary integration and analytics platform, connects, normalises, stores and analyses data from every subsystem; IBM Maximo Application Suite executes and records the maintenance work that results.
The MIDAS360 middleware provides interface management, adapter and protocol handling, message routing, validation, transformation, normalisation and event, alarm and alert processing. It connects 34 subsystems through 10 interfacing systems and handles eight or more operational and enterprise technologies, including OPC UA, SNMP, NTP, SFTP, ODBC/JDBC, SOAP and REST.
A Common Data Platform consolidates and historises operational and maintenance information for dashboards, KPIs, reporting and predictive analytics. When a subsystem raises an alarm or condition change, MIDAS360 validates and normalises it, then automatically raises a Service Request in Maximo. The resulting work order and completed maintenance history return to the platform, creating a linked audit trail and feeding future analysis.
Delivery follows the programme’s Interface Control Document process. Each interface is defined, agreed, verified and validated before it is built, matching the engineering discipline required by a major international rail programme.

Impact
The deployment is in delivery and the network has not yet entered revenue service. The platform has therefore been engineered around the following programme outcomes rather than post-launch operational metrics.
