Full Stack FuelTrans Platform Selected for 320 Plus Stations
BCT replaced a legacy automation platform with connected forecourt, fleet, payments, loyalty and ERP capabilities designed to scale with acquisition-led growth.
Client
Challenge
The group was operating with a legacy automation platform that was not designed for acquisition-led growth. At signing, the programme covered more than 320 stations across 15 African countries, with the wider network expected to grow beyond 700 sites. The group needed one platform that could scale as new businesses and locations were added.
Fleet fuelling authorisation was fragmented across OTP, QR, NFC and fleet-card transactions. Mobile wallets and banking partners were also disconnected, while non-fuel retail sales for lubricants and LPG were not integrated with loyalty and forecourt operations.
The absence of direct integration between station operations and the group’s Odoo ERP limited financial and operational visibility. The group needed to select and mobilise a partner quickly, without slowing its expansion programme or creating a separate technology model for every acquired network.

Solution
BCT proposed FuelTrans NextGen Smart Wireless Automation as a single IoT-enabled platform covering forecourt automation, the Back Office System, the Head Office System, mobile access and fleet management. The full-stack approach replaced the incumbent automation solution across the group’s estate rather than addressing one module at a time.
The Head Office and Back Office systems provided group-wide management and reporting across countries and stations. The fleet management system supported OTP, QR, NFC and fleet-card fuelling, with controls for fleet customers. FuelTrans also integrated loyalty and non-fuel retail sales for lubricants and LPG.
BCT connected mobile wallets, including TING, and banking services, including Indo-Zambia Bank, directly to the fleet application. Integration with Odoo ERP gave the group a common source of operational and financial information. Mobile applications enabled distributed teams to access station data remotely.

Impact
The group selected FuelTrans for a multiyear, multimillion-dollar engagement covering more than 320 stations across 15 African countries at signing. The deal closed in under six months and replaced the incumbent automation provider’s full software stack.
The group gained a common platform for forecourt automation, head-office reporting, fleet authorisation, loyalty, non-fuel retail and ERP integration. OTP, QR and NFC controls strengthened fleet transaction validation, while mobile wallet and bank connectivity brought previously separate payment channels into the fleet application.
Once the HOS and BOS automation and fleet controls are live, manual site-level reconciliation is estimated to reduce by about 60%. Loyalty-linked upsell for lubricants and LPG is estimated to support a 42% increase in incremental non-fuel revenue, while authenticated fleet controls are expected to recover a meaningful share of fuel spend previously exposed to fraud or misuse.
The architecture gives the group a platform that can extend to new sites as its network expands. It also established FuelTrans as a reference provider for large, multi-country fuel retail programmes in Africa.
