Automated Processing of 3100 Views in Hours
BCT built a reusable migration framework within Snowflake to generate data views automatically, standardise naming and reduce repetitive engineering work.

Challenge
Manually updating thousands of views would demand weeks of repetitive work and expose business reports to errors in SQL code and table references. Inconsistent naming conventions also made the existing data environment harder to manage.
The company needed to migrate its views while standardising their names and limiting the demands on its engineering team. Delays would extend the period of running two systems and postpone the value of its cloud investment.

Solution
BCT developed a dynamic stored procedure using Snowflake SQL scripting. The procedure drew information from a central metadata table and automatically generated the code needed to create views in the new environment.
This approach controlled migration through a common source of metadata and applied the new naming convention during processing. It reduced the need for engineers to copy, rewrite and check individual SQL updates manually.
The processing ran directly within Snowflake, without requiring a separate third-party translation tool. BCT also designed the framework for reuse in future schema updates and database migrations.

Impact
The automated process handled 3,100 of the 3,200 views without manual data entry or coding for those views. Execution completed in a few hours, compared with the estimated four to six weeks required for a manual approach.
The submission reported 97% accuracy and naming standardisation across all 3,200 assets. Consistent names improved the organisation of the data environment and made information easier for business teams to locate.
