The upgrade affected certificates and services across a complex environment with legacy systems, automated processes and third-party integrations. Replacing server and client certificates at scale required careful inventory management and compatibility testing to avoid interrupting authentication or access to critical services.
The organisation also needed to coordinate application owners, vendor teams and other stakeholders while managing resource and skill constraints. Solution
BCT upgraded the root and intermediate Certificate Authority configurations and replaced SHA-1 server and client certificates with SHA-256 equivalents. The work covered the PKI infrastructure and the certificates used by connected systems, establishing a consistent approach across the environment.
The team updated group policies, certificate templates and auto-enrolment configurations to support certificate distribution and lifecycle management. Updated certificates were rolled out across the workforce and remote offices as part of the wider deployment.
Pre-migration testing checked compatibility with legacy systems before the phased rollout. BCT prepared a fallback strategy using backup certificates so the team had a defined response if compatibility issues affected critical services.
A communication plan kept impacted stakeholders informed throughout the activity. Close coordination with application owners and vendor teams helped manage dependencies and align the migration with operational requirements.
